Question on Step 6 - Initiation to Hermetics

My question relates to Astral Ether as it is mentioned in Step VI.

Just what is Astral Ether? On the one hand, Bardon seems to relate 
it to vital energy in that it can be accumulated in astral and 
physical bodies, but on the other hand he relates it to Akasha, 
which cannot be accumulated.

Is Astral Ether quadripolar like vital energy, or is it the 
manifestation of the causal element in the astral plane?
