I would personally say that studying astrology is a benificial, but 
not necessary practice when studying Hermetics. Within PME Bardon 
mentions a number of different spirits that are concerned with 
instruction in the practice of astrology.

astrology in general, not just the Hermetic brand is by one Bob Marks:
