I'm not sure how relevent this is, but the symbolism of the black and red 
powder (usually 
pictured as pots) is an important aspect of the alchemical process, 
representing the 
refiened elements that are married in the chymical wedding (producing the 
hemaphrodite, 
or the great work), just thought it would be interesting to note.
